MOUNT MERU TREKKING OVERVIEW

Rising majestically to 4,566 meters (14,980 feet), Mount Meru is Tanzania’s second-highest mountain and one of Africa’s most scenic trekking experiences. Located within Arusha National Park, the mountain offers a stunning blend of wildlife, lush forests, and dramatic volcanic landscapes—perfect for trekkers seeking both adventure and tranquility.

The trek up Mount Meru is often considered a preparation climb for Mount Kilimanjaro, but it is a rewarding journey in its own right. Unlike other treks, the route begins through forests teeming with giraffes, buffaloes, baboons, and colobus monkeys, offering a rare mix of wilderness and mountain adventure.

As you ascend, the trail passes through several ecological zones—from dense rainforest and heather moorland to the rocky alpine desert near the summit. The ascent to Socialist Peak, the mountain’s highest point, typically begins before dawn, offering breathtaking sunrise views over Mount Kilimanjaro and the Great Rift Valley.
